Mexico is a country that is characterized by its gastronomy, and for 37 years at every table or family gathering there has been no shortage of an unconditional companion; These are the Pascual, Lulú soft drinks and the Boing! fruit drink. These belong to the Pascual Cooperative, which is currently celebrating its anniversary.
Join the celebration by learning about the history of a Mexican cooperative and the socially responsible actions it is currently carrying out! It is likely to leave an excellent taste in your mouth.
Once upon a time... a company that became a cooperative
Cooperativa Pascual is run by its own members in Chinese American Phone Number List a democratic and egalitarian manner to respond to economic, social and cultural needs and ambitions in a sustainable manner.
It has been in Mexico for more than 80 years, however... It is celebrating 37 years of being a cooperative! This story of a cooperative began when Rafael Víctor Jiménez Zamudio founded the company Pascual SA in the 1930s and early 1940s. His first products were popsicles, bottled water in jugs, and the popular Pascual soft drinks.
In the early 1950s, Pascual began advertising the Pato Pascual soft drink with the slogan “Fruit in your soft drink.” In the same decade, the Lulú soft drink came onto the market, represented by a flirtatious and innocent doll that marked an entire generation.
The excellent work and dedication meant that in the early 1960s, the company obtained recognition within the soft drink industry, this allowed it to expand to the United States and Japan. It was right at this time when the Fruit drink that we all know called Boing! was launched, which unlike the rest of the drinks, does not contain gas.
Up to this point, everything seemed to be going well for the company, but in March 1982 a strong economic crisis led the Mexican government to decree a salary increase of 10, 20 and 30%; and although the majority of companies complied with this presidential provision, the owner of Refrescos Pascual refused to grant said increase to his collaborators, which gave rise to the beginning of a cooperative.
The beginning of the history of a 100% Mexican cooperative
Given the refusal, a group of Pascual workers decided to go to the offices of the Mexican Workers Party (PMT), where, failing to reach any agreement, a strike began. And thanks to the joint demands, they triumphed in 1984, when in a meeting prior to a hearing they agreed to add one more alternative for the solution of their conflict: allocate the assets of Refrescos Pascual SA in favor of the workers, who committed to work under the Cooperative system.
This is how the Pascual SCL Workers Cooperative Society began its activities with the “Aguascalientes Project.” Eight trucks left for that state to get supplies and returned to Mexico City to sell their products and begin writing the successful story of a Cooperative.
